Manipur: Bishnupur DC issues first gender certificates to two transgender persons
The DC has issued the certificates as per the provisions contained under Rule 5 of Transgender Persons ( Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020.
In a first, Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar on Friday distributed transgender certificates and identity cards to two transgender persons in the district.
The DC handed over the certificates to the two trans persons in function held at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner at new Mini Secretariat in the presence of ADM H Bobby Sharma, AC to DC L Bobby Singh and District Manager (IT) O Prasanta.
Speaking to the media, Kumar said that the certificates were issued as per the provisions contained under Rule 5 of Transgender Persons ( Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020 read with Section 6 of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
Kumar informed that AC to Deputy Commissioner has been appointed as the Nodal Officer to empower transgenders to enable them to avail the benefits of central and state schemes.
Earlier, the district administration had provided a financial assistance of Rs 15,000 each to 35 transgenders under the sponsorship of National Institute for Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, besides providing foodgrains and other essential commodities to the transgender community during the COVID-19 pandemic, the deputy commissioner informed.
The district administration is also supporting in the implementation of Garima Greh: a shelter home for transgenders in the district, Kumar added.
A transgender person can now apply for a certificate and identity card online, without having to visit any office. They can register through the national portal 'transgender.dosje.gov.in' with self-attested affidavit, Aadhaar and digital passport photo.
