Cancel Manipur Speaker's order on HAC membership: Consultative meeting

The UNC stated that the order of the Speaker for induction of eight MLAs of the assembly constituencies from the "unscheduled areas" as members of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) is unconstitutional.

The United Naga Council (UNC) consultative meeting on Tuesday on the "Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Bill 2021 and the September 1, 2021 order of the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly" took two resolutions.

The publicity wing of UNC informed Newmai News Network that Tuesday’s meeting condemned the Manipur Legislative Assembly for not tabling the HAC Bill 2021. The second resolution is that, the order of the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly for induction of eight MLAs of the assembly constituencies from the "unscheduled areas" as members of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) vide Orders No. 5/11(2)/2021-LA(Secy) dated September 1, 2021 is unconstitutional. As such, the consultative meeting demanded that the order of the Speaker should be "cancelled at the earliest".

It may be mentioned that the "All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Naga Women Union (NWU), Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), CNPO, JTC, NPO, TNL, former presidents of UNC, Naga parliamentarians, former ADC chairmen and senior activists" from the Naga community were invited to the meeting.
