The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur rose to 1,234 after seven more returnees, five males and two females, tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, official sources said.
According to a statement issued by additional director and spokesperson Health Department, Manipur Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang the new cases are among those 660 samples tested at the VRDL of JNIMS in Imphal.
Of them, Senapati reported four cases while Bishnupur, Imphal East and Kangpokpi reported one case each, he added.
On Tuesday, 59 more persons- five from COVID Care Centre, Meitram, 19 from COVID Care Centre, Ukhrul, two from RIMS, 24 from JNIMS and nine from District Hospital Churachandpur, were discharged after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test.
With the new recoveries, the number of active cases in the state stood at 681 while the recovered cases increased to 553. The recovery rate now is 44.81 per cent, Dr Mangang stated.
The new COVID-19 positive cases are being shifted to Covid Care Facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Mangang added.
Meanwhile, the health department stated that free quarantine facilities for healthcare workers has been arranged by the government at all locations. However, they are also allowed to stay in hotel or paid quarantines (on self-payment) if they prefer to do so, Dr Mangang stated.
