The Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) while extending greetings and salutations to all for the forthcoming 90th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang on August 29, appealed to the people of state to observe the historic event.
A release by ZSUM stated that the martyrdom of Haipou Jadonang for the freedom and resistance against British imperialism ignited popular uprising in the eastern part of the Indian sub-continent. The Naga Raj movement was nipped in the bud with the arrest of Haipou Jadonang who was hanged on August 29, 1931. It was the period where many other revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Khudiram Bose were executed by the British.
Haipou Jadonang was among the galaxy of anti-colonialist of the world, it added while appealing to people of the state to observe the historic event in commemoration of the sacrifice made by him.
The release also stated that Zeliangrong people in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur and elsewhere will partake in the observance ceremony.
All are requested to light up candles and traditional torches everywhere to signify the great uprising of Naga Raj movement, which was also a freedom movement for India and Manipur against British imperialism, it added.
