Employees of Soil Conservation and Horticulture department, Churachandpur on Friday appealed to the chief minister to appoint a drawing and disbursing officer (DDO) at the earliest so that their pending salaries can be disbursed.
Salaries of around 56 employees of the department have been kept on hold since June, 2021 after the death of their district officer cum DDO on June 25 due to COVID-19. The employees have been facing hardship with no earnings as there is no DDO to sign their salary slips.
“As we are running our families depending on the salaries, we are facing untold hardships especially in the time of lockdown. Pensioners are also facing the same issue as they are not able to claim their pensions,” said the employees.
They further said that official works are going on normally as per norms in the department but with no legal authority or officer to sign in any of the official documents. Moreover, the beneficiaries have not received any of the horticulture crops like banana saplings which will soon run out of season.
Field assistant, Justin Laiphangbam flanked by his colleagues appealed to the state government, particularly the chief minister to appoint a DDO in the department at the earliest so that their problem will be eased.
