Two children drown in Gundung river in Kangpokpi

Owing to the incessant rainfall in the past few weeks, the water level in Gundung river has been rising.

Two sevn-year-old boys drowned at Gundung river in Kangpokpi on Wednesday.

Owing to the incessant rainfall in the past few weeks, the water level in Gundung river has been rising though it has not crossed the danger level yet.

The deceased have been identified as Kaimonlal Kipgen ,7, son of Paoginlal of T Phainom village and Lungunmang Sitlhou ,7, son of Henkholun Sitlhou of Keithelmanbi Military Colony under Champhai Sub Division of Kangpokpi district.

When locals saw the bodies, they rushed to recover them from the river and brought them to District Hospital Kangpokpi where the doctors declared them brought dead.

Both the boys were a student of Brighter English School, Keithelmanbi Military Colony.

Kaimonlal Kipgen was buried the night itself while Lungunmang Sitlhou was buried on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Tujang Area Youth Association condoled the unfortunate incident and extended solidarity towards the bereaved families. The association appealed to the state government and the District Administration of Kangpokpi to compensate for the unfortunate loss.
