The Tousem Area Students’ Association (TASO) has questioned the authorities concerned for keeping the post of SDPO vacant for more than a year in Tousem sub-division, which has left the people of the area uncertain of their security.

A release signed by TASO president Nehemiah Daime stated that no SDPO in the sub-division has shown that the government has no concern towards the people of the area.

“Security forces are indispensable to safeguard the lives of the people which also ensure a sense of normalcy to the people. However, the security of Tousem sub-division has been kept in uncertainty with the absence of security forces in the headquarters and in the bordering areas,” it stated.

People feel unsafe as there has been consistent breakdown of law and order mechanisms especially in the southern region of the sub-division, stated the students’ body, adding that people in the area have a sense of foreboding when they are denied protection from the security forces.

Stating that the authorities concerned should look into the matter at the earliest, TASO sought a logical explanation for marginalising the Tousem area in terms of security.
