The Meghalaya government will request the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to keep on hold the transfer of Central government employees including paramilitary forces from one state to another in view of the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country.

“We have asked the Chief Secretary to write a letter and send to the MHA in this regard,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed on Monday.

As the state is working hard to contain the spread of the virus, Tynsong said that the state government felt that the transfer of Central government employees including those working in banks should be kept on hold for now.

Meghalaya recorded a total of 50 COVID-19 cases and those infected by the virus were mostly people who returned from other states. Only five cases are active, and 42 persons have recovered while one succumbed to the virus.

It may be noted here that two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel who came to Meghalaya a few days back had also tested positive for COVID-19. Both the personnel are under quarantine in Shillong.

“Some of them (BSF) personnel who were on leave had come back after their leave period ended,” Tynsong said.

He then informed that the officials of the state government had also held frequent meetings with officials of Central forces and discussed measures to be taken to contain the spread of the virus.
