Despite the state government’s order that warned not to support the ongoing cease-work strike, employees under the umbrella of the Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA), the Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF), the Manipur Secretariat (non-ministerial) Drivers’ Association continued their agitation for fulfilling their demands immediately.
MSSA general secretary Purujit Lairikyengbam said that the employees will continue the indefinite cease-work strike till the demands are fulfilled.
“It is unfortunate that the state government issued an order cautioning the employees that action will be taken against the employees who are supporting the ongoing protest. It is a common phenomenon of the government to caution the employees in such situations,” he said.
He continued that the employees would be glad if the government fulfilled the demands by materialising the agreements made in the MOUs that were signed between the state government and employees’ association instead of issuing the order to threaten the protestors.
The employees’ associations have decided to send a letter to the state government to withdraw the recent order that warned the employees not to support the ongoing indefinite cease-work strike, said Purujit.
He also said the state government should bring an amicable solution for the anomaly issues faced by various employees including engineering departments, health department (doctors and nurses), school education department, arts and culture department, excise department and others.
In connection with the issues that led to the cease-work strike, the employees’ associations will be holding a press conference at the conference hall of Old Secretariat, Babupara, Imphal, he added.
