As many as 21 street lights were on Tuesday installed from Nagamapal to Imphal hospital along Nagamapal-RIMS road under the initiative of president of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) and intending candidate of Uripok assembly constituency Mahananda Nungleppam.
In a video release issued by the MPYCC, Mahandanda said the road is one of the important roads in the state as it leads to the RIMS hospital, NIT campus, different offices of state government and even VIP quarters.
Mahananada said,“I have taken the initiative to install the street lights since there are no streetlights along the road. I had approached officials of the Power department and highlighted the problem and submitted a letter to the chief engineer of the power department and chief secretary. However, there were no steps taken up till date.”
Since the said road remains dark at night due to the absence of street lights, there had been many accidents at night and a number of vehicles stolen, he added. Besides, people also met with accidents and injuries due to the holes at the footpath along the road, said Mahananda.
The MPYCC president further said that he has taken up the initiative so that the street lights can be of help to prevent accidents and that the vehicles also remain safe.
