AMSU seeks public support for Hunger Marchers’ Day 2021

The observation will take off with the hoisting of AMSU flag by its president Haobijam Chalamba at Pishum Chingamacha, Imphal West where the memorial site is located.

The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) on Tuesday appealed to the people of Manipur to extend physical and financial support for the observation of 56th Hunger Marchers Day on August 27.

The observation will begin with the hoisting of AMSU flag by its president Haobijam Chalamba at Pishum Chingamacha, Imphal West where the memorial site is located and followed by offering of floral tributes to four individuals who laid down their lives on August 27, 1965 during a famine-like situation in the state.

Briefing the media at its office on Tuesday, Haobijam Chalamba said a public meeting with adherence to Covid guidelines and SOPs will also be organised at AMSU office.

Chalamba said different district branches of AMSU will be organizing different competitions such as painting, recitation, essay writing and symposium on the day.

Mentioning that AMSU had been able to observe the day in the past with help from the public, he appealed to the public to extend support for successful observation of the day for the current year.

Chalamba said AMSU had been observing the day in remembrance of four individuals who laid down their lives during the protest against artificial scarcity of food grains in the state on August 27, 1965.
