As a part of the survey which started on Thursday for expansion of the National Highway No 37 into a double lane, further work for land demarcation started on Friday at Jiri Bridge after a brief halt due to objections raised while conducting survey at Leingangpokpi.
In this regard, Assistant Horticulture inspector, department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, government of Manipur K Dhiren Singh said that for expansion work of NH 37 into a double lane taken up by NHIDCL, he took part as a representative of the department. The work will be taken up on the highway from Jiri Bridge to Leingangpokpi.
If there are cases of affecting any standing properties inside the ‘patta lands’ during the ongoing work, the Horticulture department will assess the matter, he said.
Officials of Tamenglong district also arrived to take part in a meeting held at Leingangpokpi Police Station.
Meanwhile, Jiri Development Organization (JDO) on Friday objected to the survey claiming that there are unresolved land issues at Leingangpokpi. In this regard, a press meet was organised where JDO president N Sadananda Meitei expressed that officials should not carry out a survey at the area until the matter is resolved.
When the survey was started, locals of Tatbung which is neighbour to Jiribam came out and requested to conduct the survey with participation of Settlement officials of Tamenglong district, and not to conduct the survey under Jiribam district administration, he said. He also mentioned that deliberations were held to sort out the matter with Jiribam DC and leaders of several civil bodies. However, the survey should not be carried out until the matter is clearly settled, he added.
