Mobile testing vehicles for COVID-19 to be launched soon

Rajo said the increase in the number of positive cases and while the death count not going down during the second wave is due to the increase in Delta Variant cases.

Director of Health Services Manipur K Rajo on Friday announced that the Health department will be soon launching mobile testing vehicles which will be able to take around 3,000-3,500 RT-PCR tests per day.

Rajo was speaking in a press meet organised by the Directorate of Health Services at Indian Medical Association, (IMA) Manipur branch in Lamphelpat. He said the RT-PCR tests will charge Rs 450 per person, and the test result will be available within 24 hours. This initiative will provide tests easily to the people, he added.

Rajo said the increase in the number of positive cases and while the death count not going down during the second wave is due to the increase in Delta Variant cases. Not following of Covid appropriate behaviours and unable to make progress in vaccination are a few other reasons, he said.

“In the state, July month witnessed a high number of deaths. Imphal West district has high cases of deaths while Pherzawl district on the other hand, has no reports of deaths due to COVID-19 so far,” he added.

He further said that under the aegis of the state government, the Health department is taking up various steps and works to combat the second wave of COVID-19. Testing of COVID-19 and vaccination programme is being monitored, and a team of the Health department is looking after the home isolation patients as well as providing 24-hour Covid controlled rooms to positive patients for any help, Rajo said.

Positivity rate in the state is becoming lesser than before as the rate was 20 per cent and now it is 14 per cent. The death rate was high but now it is fluctuating, said Rajo.

He further appealed to the general public to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated.

Pointing out that the Central team is visiting the state for the second time, he said that the teams are also visiting other states which have a high positivity rate. They are visiting to access and extend support to the state in terms of genome sequencing, testing, contact tracing, containment operation, Covid appropriate behaviour, Covid vaccination, surveillance, hospital paid, status of ambulance, fatality analysis etc. They will also support in resolving the loopholes and look at the financial support of the state in combating the second wave, he said.

Concerning the present Covid status of Manipur, he briefed that positive cases have reached 1,02,147 while the recovery rate stands at 89.19 per cent. 

Rajo further stressed on the need for the people to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour, to wear masks and to get vaccinated. He appealed to stop spreading false information or circulate messages against the state government and Health department to the general public through social media.

The press meet was attended by Central team members and other representatives from the Health department.
