Imphal West: Keishampat Keisham Leikai becomes COVID-19 free zone

Keishampat Keisham Leikai turned ‘green zone’ owing to its residents strictly abiding by COVID-19 protocols laid down by the state government.

Keishampat Keisham Leikai, Imphal West has been declared as COVID-19 free zone with around 90 per cent vaccination rate among its residents on Tuesday.

The densely populated locality in the heart of Imphal City under Keishamthong assembly constituency has managed to become a ‘green zone’ owing to its residents strictly abiding by COVID-19 protocols laid down by the state government from time to time.

In connection to this, MCYC COVID-19 Task Force convener, Th Anilkumar said that the locality had reported nine cases of COVID-19 positive during the initial stage of pandemic second wave. However, taking up stringent preventive measures and carrying out of awareness programmes by the task force team and local Meira Paibi group have helped in taking stock of the situation, Anilkumar said, adding that Keishampat Keisham Leikai has already become COVID free zone since a month ago.

More than 600 eligible residents were inoculated with first and second doses of COVID vaccine during the three phases of mass vaccination drive in the locality, organised by the MCYC COVID -19 Task Force under the aegis of local MLA L Jayantakumar.

Meanwhile, MCYC COVID-19 Task Force co-convener, Thokchom Ashwini said that the local MLA has extended immense support in carrying out COVID-19 awareness programmes in the locality. He also said that intending candidate of Keishamthong AC in the upcoming general election, Thounaojam Maheshwar encouraged and motivated the task force volunteers in the fight against COVID-19 by providing the residents with various essential items.

Appreciating all the individuals concerned and residents for their support, he reiterated that the task force will continue organising awareness programmes, besides taking up preventive measures in the locality to retain the green zone status.
