Repair work of the 10-feet wide breach in the front wall of the dam along Heirok River constructed near Dhakarok area of Heirok Part-II has been completed, sources said.
The breach occurred on Saturday after the rising waters from Heirok River flooded the area, and MLA of Heirok assembly constituency Th Radheshyam had voluntarily taken the responsibility for repairing it and provided both manpower and necessary monetary funds.
Farmers of Loklaobung Khongjao who avail irrigation waters from the dam along with office bearers of Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), Heirok part-II Water Supply Scheme had also extended their full support in the repairment.
After the dam was breached, locals had faced a shortage of tap water for about two- three days.
Secretary VWSC, Heirok part-II Water Supply Scheme Kh Tomba has conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to the local MLA for his initiative in repairing the breach.
“The dam had no caretaker earlier, but now the MLA has appointed one while also providing the caretaker with a monthly honorarium,” he added
