India reports 44,230 new COVID-19 cases, while 42,360 more patients recovered in the last 24 hours, according to the latest update by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
The country’s recovery rate stood at 97.38 per cent with total number of recoveries reaching 3,07,43,972. With it, the total active caseload reached 4,05,155 that constitutes 1.28 per cent of the 3,15,72,344 total cases as of Friday.
The total COVID-19 death toll in the country reached 4,23,217 as 555 more patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours. The fatality rate is now 1.34 per cent.
The weekly positivity rate remained below five per cent, currently at 2.43 per cent, while the daily positivity rate also remained below five per cent at 2.44 per cent.
Testing capacity has been substantially ramped up and a total of 46.46 crore tests have been conducted as of Friday.
As many as 45,60,33,754 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain, the ministry stated in a release.
The ministry stated that as a part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the Government of India has been supporting the states and UTs by providing them COVID vaccines free of cost.
In the new phase of the universalization of the COVID19 vaccination drive, the Union Government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75 per cent of the vaccines being produced by the vaccine manufacturers in the country to states and UTs, the ministry added.
