“People affected by COVID-19 are mostly marginalised sections of the society and daily wage earners,” said Imphal West district and session judge, A Guneshwar during an online legal awareness programme on COVID-19 related schemes, organised by District Legal Services Authority, Chandel (DLSA) on Monday.
The online legal awareness programme was organised focussing on ‘Chief Minister's COVID Affected Livelihood Scheme’ and ‘Angang Gi Tengbang’ for Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
Guneshwar stated that the daily wage earners and children who have lost their parents or guardians are most affected during the pandemic and so he highlighted the state government schemes.
Resource person of the programme, advocate Ch Momon spoke on the objectives of the schemes. He apprised the participants on the eligibility criteria, identification of the beneficiaries and the process for registration for the schemes.
Stating that active participation is required at the grass root, he highlighted the important roles which the PLVs and the panel lawyers need to play in helping beneficiaries avail the schemes.
The programme was attended by judicial officers, panel lawyers, PLVs, representatives of NGOs and people from various walks of life.
During the discussion hour, many concerns were raised by participants. They sought answers on the kind of documents required and on points which they deem ambiguous in the schemes. Their queries were satisfactorily addressed by the resource person and the chairman.
