Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur has appealed to the state government to honour Saikhom Mirabai Chanu with a government post of any officer rank not less than that of an SP.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu made history by winning India’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics, she won a silver medal in the Women’s 49 kg Weightlifting event, AIMS stated in a release on Saturday.

Expressing congratulations to Mirabai Chanu on her achievement, AIMS further appealed to the state government to honour her with any officer of a rank not lower than an SP and provide a residence for her in the Imphal area.

AIMS also appealed for establishing a weightlifting institute under the guidance of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu to produce more players in future, it stated. “With this honour, she can be an idol of India and inspire future generations,” AIMS added.
