Sikkim COVID-19 tally rises to 87

In a first case in North Sikkim, a 31-year-old ITBP jawan, staying at a quarantine facility with travel history from Sonepat, Haryana and other places tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Sikkim reported two more COVID-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally of positive patients to 87, the state health department said on Saturday.

In a first case in North Sikkim, a 31-year-old ITBP jawan, staying at a quarantine facility with travel history from Sonepat, Haryana and other places tested positive for the virus, Director General (DG)-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr Pema T Bhutia said.

A 22-year-old SSB jawan from Singtam in East Sikkim also tested positive for COVID- 19, the official said.

The state, however, recorded recovery cases of 39 patients. With it, the number of active COVID-19 cases is 48, Bhutia said.

Till May 22, Sikkim was the only state in the country with no case of COVID-19. The first Coronavirus confirmed case in the state was reported on May 23 when a resident of South Sikkim with a travel history to Delhi was tested positive for COVID-19.
