Manipur logs 1,327 new COVID-19 cases in highest single-day spike

Imphal West recorded its highest single-day spike of 400 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.

Manipur on Wednesday reported its highest single-day COVID-19 spike yet again after the state added over 1,000 coronavirus cases, according to the latest updates from the state health department.

With 1,327 new COVID-19 cases, the state's tally has reached 88,050 and the number of COVID-19 active cases surged to 10,347, it stated.

A total of 6,852 test results were received on Wednesday, of which 1,327 were found positive for COVID-19. The cumulative number of test results received is 10,20,869, as per the update.

Imphal West recorded its highest single-day spike of 400 new COVID-19 cases. Imphal East also recorded as many as 352 daily new COVID-19 cases. The other new Coronavirus cases included 124 from Thoubal, 106 from Kakching, 94 from Churachandpur, 77 from Bishnupur, 38 from Chandel, 35 from Tamenglong, 27 from Noney, 22 from Kangpokpi, 17 from Jiribam, 12 from Kamjong, 10 from Senapati, nine from Ukhrul, and two each from Pherzawl and Tengnoupal, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated. 

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated. 

In addition to the the unprecedented surge of new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, Manipur has also registered 15 deaths in a span of 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,424,

Of the COVID-19 fatalities, six deaths were from Bishnupur district alone. Imphal West registered three deatha, two deaths each were from Imphal East and Thoubal and one death each from Chandel and Churachandpur, it stated.

Wednesday also saw 1,032 discharges. pushing the cumulative number of recovered cases in the state to 76,279 and the recovery rate stands at 86.63 per cent, it added.

The release further stated that a total of 1,676 D-type oxygen cylinders and 406 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of the state in the last 24 hours.

As per the latest updates, the cumulative number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Manipur reached 10,90,922 (First dose: 9,65,342 and second dose: 1,25,580).
