House-to-house COVID-19 testing begins in Kangpokpi

As the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Kangpokpi district of Manipur inches close to the 200-mark at 180 on Friday, house-to-house COVID-19 testing was started in the district following the directive of the health department.

A a medical team in collaboration with the Covid task force and the Kangpokpi Police began house-to-house testing at Ward No IX Kangpokpi town Friday.

In all, 73 individuals from 64 households were tested by a medical team led by Dr Iquebal under the supervision of medical superintendent district hospital Kangpokpi Dr Paotinlal Haokip, and all were found negative.

However, nine households refused to get tested.

Under the supervision of MO PHC Kalapahar, Dr Pilhing, a house-to-house testing was also conducted at Keithelmanbi Ward No VI, where, out of 54 individuals tested, two persons were found positive for COVID-19. Covid task force Keithelmanbi sealed their residences.

Meanwhile, Kangpokpi's Covid fatality rate climbed to 47, with the death of a 40-year-old woman from Kangpokpi at RIMS Hospital, Imphal as per official Covid daily update report by DSO Kangpokpi.

Late Thursday, nine individuals who were all government employees staying at DC's office complex quarters were found positive while another three from the same quarters were tested positive on Friday.

Following the sudden surge of infection in the town and the directive of the state government, the local bodies of Kangpokpi town under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee (KTC) cancelled its previous notification of partially lifting the prolonged lockdown by considering the requests of migrant shopkeepers.

KTC decided to resume lockdown in the town in consonance with the government order effective from July 18.

The notification issued by KTC chairman L Kipgen, stated that the whole market will be relocked again until further notice while a total curfew will be imposed in the town including shops and hotels in all the wards of Kangpokpi town. Only essential activities related to vaccination, Covid testing, medical services, air travel and agricultural activities would be allowed.
