All telecommunication services provided by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Tamenglong remained disrupted and non-operational for the past six days after a lightning hit one of its facilities at Oinamlong recently, sources said.
The BSNL services, including broadband, mobile phone network, landlines and WLL, were stopped since July 12. Owing to it, BSNL subscribers in the district are now facing various issues at this time of COVID-19 pandemic. Children taking online classes are suffering the most.
BSNL Tamenglong, sub divisional engineer, Tomba said that the BSNL networks in Tamenglong and Jiribam districts have broken down as the MW equipment installed at Oinamlong station was struck by lightning on July 12 at 2:49 pm.
"This station is looked after by ETR (Eastern Telecom Region). There are no spare cards available at Oinamlong station. I personally went to search and collect the cards at Khongshang station and Vaitum khullen (Kotlen) station, unfortunately the cards available at these stations are also burnt and had to be brought back to Imphal for repair,” Tomba the Imphal Free Press.
While the repairing work is going on, the SDE requested all the valuable customers of BSNL to bear and wait for the next few days and stated that the inconvenience caused was regretted.
He also informed that the damaged power cards were repaired and will be replaced by Saturday likely.
Meanwhile, one principal of an institute urged the BSNL Tamenglong through Tamenglong Voice WhatsApp group to provide internet service without hindrance so that board examination marks can be uploaded in time and online classes can be conducted regularly.
