The NSCN (I-M) has terminated two senior members of the organisation. Vaison Vemai and VS Jonah Vemai were executive members of the Steering Committee, the highest decision making body of NSCN (I-M). They were terminated from the "Naga National Service (Party and Government) with immediate effect," said NSCN (I-M) in a statement on Thursday.

"It is the bounden duty of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) to be on alert against the activities of any of its members that threatens the national interests. For the same reason, certain actions that were openly seen to abet anti-national activities are not condoned with. Mr. Vaison Vemai, Executive Member, Steering Committee, NSCN and Mr. VS Jonah Vemai, Executive Member, Steering Committee, NSCN, were on the NSCN’s radar for quite some time," said the statement of NSCN (I-M).

"Having learnt from various sources on their involvement in activities detrimental to the interest of the Naga nation and used by the Indian agencies, they were asked to be stationed at the Council Headquarters (CHq), Hebron," the statement further said, adding, "But for the reason best known to them they defied the instruction".

According to NSCN (I-M), this prompted the "authorities" to issue a summon letter to both of them to make themselves convenient to be stationed at the CHq and produce explanations for their act of "defiance". It alleged that, much to the displeasure of the "Government", Vaison Vemai and Jonah Vemai dishonored the letter. They were, however, given the final opportunity to come out clean for deliberately defying the instructions for the third time consecutively, NSCN (I-M) also said. Finally, instead of showing up at the CHq, they showed up at Khehoi designated camp, turning themselves as fugitives and under the veil of Naga unity for the uplift of the "nation," it added.

Failing to justify their position against various allegations, there is no doubt that the two brothers are not clean, said the NSCN (I-M) statement. It also alleged that working hand in glove with the "adversaries" for personal benefits overlooking the "Naga national interest" is an act of treason.

NSCN-IM then said that deliberately abusing power for vested interest under the shadow of NSCN is uncalled for. "The Government in the past had assigned Mr. Vaison Vemai in the religious wing at the highest level, but going by his treacherous and unbecoming activities he is no longer qualified to be a church and organization related activities," it also said.

The two members in the past had been suspended and terminated a couple of times, the NSCN-IM statement informed.

"Such rogue members would do nothing good other than create more problems," it also said, adding, "Therefore, any person who continues to work with the two anti-national brothers in any matters shall also be dealt with utmost seriousness".

NSCN (I-M) then said that they were given a week's time to surrender all the "Government properties" which are in their possessions. It also said that, on account of failure to do the same, necessary actions "shall be initiated".

NSCN (I-M) then said it was unthinkable for both of them to "display such a deceptive silence" despite three calling letters. It further said that they had failed to exhibit courage with their staggering hypocrisy and moral cowardice.

"They spared no effort to show disgraceful conduct and duplicity by deserting their mother organization. They are, therefore, condemned for perfidy, unbridled profligacy and overweening arrogance," NSCN (I-M) added.
