The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) demanded the authority concerned to disburse the scholarships for students given under department for Welfare of Minorities and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) on time.

A release by AMSU signed by its information and publicity secretary Wangkheimayum Rimakan said that the union has been urging from time to time to release the scholarships given by MOBC without any delay. However, the authority concerned never makes it into action.

It further said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, examination and admission are going on in various institutions and this has given an immense burden to economically deprived students. Considering this, the authority concerned should release the scholarship amount without any delay.

“The main objective of the giving scholarship is to give some financial assistance to the students and let them buy their basic study requirements. What is the point of releasing the scholarship after finishing their studies?” it asked.

It continued that after an enquiry was made, it came to know that delay in releasing the scholarship amount is due to non-release of funds from the finance department. Apart from this, incomplete submission of documents at the time of online registration by the students has also resulted in rejection of forms for many students.

However, for incomplete submission of documents, the union had urged the authority to consider and many rejected students were approved after submitting the required documents. The remaining students should also submit the necessary documents on time, it urged and further said that if there is any doubt, anyone can come and get the details from the AMSU office.
