Manipur logs over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in highest single-day spike

With 1,104 new COVID-19 cases, Manipur's COVID-19 tally has reached 80,521.

Manipur reported its highest single-day COVID-19 spike on Wednesday after the state added over 1,000 coronavirus cases, according to the latest updates from the state health department.

With 1,104 new COVID-19 cases, the state's tally has reached 80,521, it stated.

A total of 7,594 test results were received on Wednesday, of which 1,104 were found positive for COVID-19. The cumulative number of test results received is 9,75,043, as per the update.

Apart from the unprecedented surge of 1,104 new cases on wednesday, Manipur has also registered 17 deaths in a span of 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,326, the state health department stated.

As many as 366 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Imphal West alone, while Imphal East reported 195 new cases. The other new COVID-19 cases included 108 from Thoubal, 102 from Churachandpur, 80 from Kakching, 67 from Bishnupur, 66 from Tamenglong, 33 from Noney, 12 from Kangpokpi, 10 from Chandel, nine from Tengnoupal,  six each from Jiribam and Ukhrul, and one from Kamjong, while the 11 new cases were from the Central Armed  Force (CAPF), a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated. 

Of the COVID-19 fatalities recorded in the state on Wednesday, four deaths each were from Churachandpur and Imphal West, three each from Imphal East and Bishnupur, and one death each from Kakching, Tengnoupal and Thoubal, it added. 

Wednesday saw 583 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries to 70,985 till date. The number of COVID-19 active cases stands at 8,210 and 88.15 per cent, it stated.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,802 D-type oxygen cylinders and 435 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of the state in the last 24 hours.

As per the latest updates, the cumulative number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Manipur reached 9,21,729 (First dose: 8,22,355 and Second dose: 99,374)
