The Union Education Ministry has assured the state Education Minister S Rajen Singh of all possible assistance in promotion of Meitei Mayek in schools education by providing necessary fundings.
In a post lockdown trip to Delhi on Tuesday, Rajen met secretary of Ministry of Education Anita Karwal at Shastri Bhavan New Delhi and discussed the promotion of Meitei Mayek in the school education system. The Ministry assured to materialise the proposal as a one-time financial measure.
Rajen Singh also met the senior officials of University Grants Commission (UGC) and initiated the process for recognition of Manipur Technical University (MTU), Takyelpat under Section 12B of the UGC Act 1956 in order to facilitate establishment of a full-fledged technical university in Manipur.
Commissioner of education(s) and vice-chancellor MTU M Harekrishna Singh; director of education(s) L Nandakumar Singh and registrar MTU Ng Bhogendra Meitei accompanied the minister in the meetings.
Rajen who is also minister of Fisheries also had a meeting with the Union cabinet minister for Ministry of Fisheries Giriraj Singh at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi.
The state minister of Fisheries updated the progress of the fisheries sector in Manipur and submitted project proposals for construction of state of the art wholesale fish market in Imphal and Bishnupur districts during the financial year 2021-2022.
The proposal submitted by Rajen also includes establishment of brood banks, cold storage, mini feed mills and rejuvenation of government and divested fish farms in Manipur.
The union fisheries minister after a patient hearing assured of all possible assistance for improvement and expansion of the fisheries sector so as to enhance productivity and production of fish and conservation of indigenous fish species.
The meeting was attended by commissioner of fisheries M Harekrishna Singh joint secretary department of fisheries India Sagar Mehra and director of fisheries H Balkrishna Singh.
