RK Ranjan, Sarbananda Sonowal, Pratima Bhoumik from Northeast inducted into Modi's cabinet

Sonowal has been inducted as Cabinet minister, while Ranjan and Bhowmik have been appointed as ministers of state, sources said.

Manipur MP (Lok Sabha) Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Tripura West MP (Lok Sabha) Pratima Bhoumik and former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal have been inducted into Narendra Modi's Cabinet at the Centre. Sonowal has been inducted as Cabinet minister, while Ranjan has been given ministers of state (External Affairs) in Modi's new cabinet on Wednesday.

Rajkumar Ranjan, Lok Sabha MP for Inner Manipur, has been serving as Member of Parliament since 2019. The 68-year-old political leader from Kongba Makha, Imphal East was born on September 1, 1952. Before joining politics, he had a four decade-long career as a Geography Professor and served as Director of College Development Council in Manipur University. He has a PhD in Geography from Gauhati University.

Sarbananda Sonawal is a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Assam and served as state chief minister from 2016 to 2021. The 58-year-old political leader has been in public life for three decades and served as Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Skill development and Entrepreneurship, and Sports and Youth Affairs. Hailing from Dibrugarh, he holds an LLB degree from Gauhati University.

Pratima Bhoumik, Lok Sabha MP from Tripura West in Tripura is serving her first term as MP. Hailing from Agartala, the 52-year-old politician comes from a humble farming background. She is a graduate from Women's College, Tripura University.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to social media and congratulated all the newly inducted ministers in Modi's cabinet.
