Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday inaugurated ‘Spring Water Harvesting, Sustainable Water and Forest Conservation’ project at Heingang, Kameng and Lamdeng in a solemn function held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The project was jointly undertaken by the Central Forest Division, Forest department, government of Manipur and ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth.
Speaking at the function, Biren said preservation and protection of forest areas is the need of the hour. He said that the state government has undertaken various programmes and schemes for the conservation of forest in the state.
To address the issues of global warming, climate change and environmental degradation, the government has successfully implemented the Chief Minister’s Green Manipur Mission in the state, he said, adding that mass tree plantations have started in different parts of the state recently.
Appreciating such initiative of the ICICI Foundation for providing potable water to the public, N Biren Singh expressed his satisfaction over the project which would benefit thousands of households in the state. He also suggested the Foundation to initiate reforestation projects in the hill areas of the state.
