Manipur MP Leishemba Sanajaoba 'poorest' among new Rajya Sabha MPs

The Association for Democratic Reforms report stated that Sanajaoba, who was elected on BJP ticket, has the least total asset.

While analysing criminal and financial details of newly elected MPs of Rajya Sabha, newly elected Rajya Sabha MP of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba has been found to be the poorest among the 62 MPs.
 
According to the report of ‘Analysis of Criminal and Financial Details of Newly Elected MPs of Rajya Sabha, June, 2020’ conducted by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Leishemba Sanajaoba, who has been the titular king of Manipur was found to be the poorest among the 62 MPs out of which 52 were found to be crorepatis.
 
The ADR release said that Sanajaoba, who was elected on BJP ticket has the least total asset of Rs 5,48,594 while Andhra Pradesh MP, Alla Ayodhya Rama Reddy, who got elected on Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket has the highest total asset of Rs 25,77,75,79,180.
 
Nathwari Parimal of the same party followed at second position with a total asset of Rs 3,96,83,96,198. The total asset includes income of self, spouse and dependents, it added.
 
A total of 62 candidates were elected from different states in the recently held Rajya Sabha polls. Among the total elected MPs, 54 are male and 8 are female.
 
On analysing the criminal background of the MPs and based on the report of the National Election Watch (NEW) and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 16 MPs have declared criminal cases against themselves and 11 MPs have declared to be charged in serious criminal cases, including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, rape, dacoity, theft and other heinous crimes.
 
Among the 11 MPs, one MP has declared being charged with murder case under IPC Section-302 and two MPs have declared being charged with cases of attempt to murder under IPC Section-307.
 
The report maintained that three MPs have declared cases related to crimes against women and out of the three, one MP has declared a case related to rape under IPC Section-376.
 
The Manipur MP was not listed among the MPs with criminal background.
 
Leishemba Sanajaoba is also the present titular king of Manipur and many civil bodies had mountedd pressure on him to abdicate kingship if he is going to be a candidate in the Rajya Sabha election.
 
The report also mentioned that 10 MPs have declared their education to be between class 8 and 12 passed while 31 MPs have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or graduate professional.
 
The 14 MPs have declared themselves to be postgraduates while six MPs have declared doctorate degree and one MP has declared to complete diploma.
