Manipur's COVID-19 tally crosses 70000-mark; 12 more die

The cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Manipur on Thursday crossed the 70000-mark after 508 new positive cases were recorded in a span of 24 hours, while 12 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,162, according to the latest updates from the state health department.

Manipur's COVID-19 caseload reached 70,298, including 5,930 active cases and 63,206 recovered cases. The state's recovery rate as of Thursday is 89.91 per cent, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Of the new COVID-19 positive cases, 500 were from the general population while eight were personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release stated.

From the general population, Imphal West logged the highest number of daily COVID-19 positive cases at 198, followed by Imphal East at 116. Forty-two new cases were from Kakching, 38 from Bishnupur, 34 from Churachandpur, 28 from Thoubal, 13 from Ukhrul, 11 from Tamenglong, seven each from Chandel and Kangpokpi, three from Senapati, and one each from Tengnoupal, Jiribam and Noney, as per the release.

Imphal East reported three deaths, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur two deaths each, while one death each were from Imphal West, Jiribam and Churachandpur, the release stated.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1,495 D-type oxygen cylinders and 359 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of Manipur, it stated.

The cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in Manipur is 6,66,625, of which 18,993 were vaccinated on Wednesday, it added.
