Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) observed its 23th Foundation Day at the Courtroom of the Commission, Lamphel, Imphal West on Sunday with the attendance of MHRC core groups members and media persons.
MHRC acting chairperson Khaidem Mani highlighted the background of the commission and reflected on how the commission was constituted in the state of Manipur in 1998.
He said that the commission will publish its first ever annual report. He appealed to the masses to approach the state human rights commission for addressing their human rights grievances instead of resorting to agitations and protest.
Deputy secretary and law officer of the Commission also attended the foundation day as its presidium members.
The third commission under the acting Chairperson Khaidem Mani assumed its office from August 2018 and at present, it has received more than 400 cases, he said.
Citing the recent judgement of Tamil Nadu High court, he said that the state government shall comply with the recommendations of the Commission. He also mentioned that functioning of the commission is not invalidated by section 9 of the protection of Human Rights act 1993 in the absence of non appointment of other members.
