Imphal West narcotic cell police constable arrested with heroin powder
Superintendent of police, Imphal East N Herojit Meetei said heroin powder weighing about 158 grams were seized.
District police, Imphal East arrested two drug peddlers, including one police constable of Imphal West Narcotic Cell who was found in possession of heroin powder on Wednesday.
Superintendent of police, Imphal East N Herojit Meetei said heroin powder weighing about 158 grams were seized from their possession during frisking and checking at Kiyamgei Maning Leikai near oil pump, Imphal.
He was speaking during a press conference held at the conference hall of SP, Imphal East, Porompat.
The arrested persons have been identified as one Md Abdul, 32, son of Md Kyamuddin of Hiyangthang Terahei, Imphal West and Md Angou, 27, son of Md Amu of Hiyangthang Terahei, Imphal West.
He said acting on a reliable information, the frisking and checking was conducted by a combined team of Narcotic cell, Imphal East led by officer-in-charge, narcotic cell, inspector Kh Devkumar Singh assisted by assistant sub-inspector Brajakishore Singh, one team of Irilbung police station, a team of Porompat police station along with members of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) of Khergao, Imphal East.
While frisking and checking was being conducted, one Honda Activa bearing registration number MN01C-4791 grey in colour was seen coming from Manipur University gate towards Kyamgei Maning Leikai near oil pump in a suspicious manner, he said. The police team stopped the vehicle and during verification, one green polythene carry bag containing 12 transparent plastic packets of heroin powder were detected from the tool box, he added.
Later, Abdul disclosed that he is a police constable presently posted at narcotic cell, Imphal West, SP added.
The two persons were arrested at the spot, and the vehicle along with two smartphones was seized.
The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Irilbung police station for further necessary legal action, said Herojit.
