India continues to witness downtrend in COVID-19, reports lowest active caseload in 82 days

The country’s daily new COVID-19 cases remained below 60,000 with the report of 50,848 new positive cases in a span of last 24 hours

India's active caseload fell to 6,43,194, the lowest in 82 days, while the country’s daily new COVID-19 cases remained below 60,000 with the report of 50,848 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, according to the COVID-19 update by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

In all, 68,817 COVID-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,89,94,855 across the country as of Wednesday 9 am. On Tuesday, the total number of recoveries across the country was 2,89,26,038.

Daily COVID-19 recoveries continue to outnumber the Daily New Cases for the 41st consecutive day and the recovery rate rose to 96.56 per cent against Tuesday’s 96.49 per cent.

The weekly positivity rate remained below five per cent, currently at 3.12 per cent, while the daily positivity rate stood at 2.67 per cent, less than five per cent for the 16 consecutive days

The testing capacity was substantially ramped up and in total, 39.59 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far.

Meanwhile, 54.24 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. In total, India has now administered 29.46 crore vaccine doses under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive as of Wednesday, the ministry added.
