Violence flared up at Pongringlong (Charoipandongba) village under Kangchup Geljang sub-division, Kangpokpi district, bordering Noney district over an internal village crisis on Thursday.

Three houses, including one shop, were torched and completely burnt to ashes while three other vehicles were also completely burnt down, and two vehicles left damaged.

The unfortunate incident happened at around 10:30 am at Pongringlong village bordering near Tupul bridge, Noney district. The NH-37 highway was also blocked for some hours.

Police sources stated that the incident followed after ‘Joint Action Committee of Peace and Normalcy in Prongringlong Village’ arranged the return of nine banished village households including the village chief back into the village.

During the clash, two sides pelted stones and attacked using slingshots, and eventually led to torching a paan shop, a pickup truck (DI Tata) and one SUV (Bolero).

A gas cylinder exploded from one of the houses in flames, rendering the attempts to put out the flames impossible.

To bring the situation under control, personnel of Noney and New Keithelmanbi Police Station rushed to the spot.

Three injured persons were brought to Noney PHC and given first aid while one injured person was admitted to RIMS. It is learnt that several other persons including police personnel were also injured in the incident during which the two parties clashed.

It may be mention that both the district magistrate of Noney and Kangpokpi have already clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 CR Pc since Wednesday at Pongringlong (Charoipandongba ) village and the whole area of Charoichagotlong (Tupul) bazar.

As the law and order situation is fragile and volatile in that area, the top officials of the two districts rush to the spot and subdue the situation.

Later the deputy commissioner of Noney District Robert Singh Kshetrimayum and deputy commissioner of Kangpokpi district Somorjit Salam chaired a joint meeting with the DIG  Range –III S Themthing and DIG Range – IV Angam Romania Kamei, SP Kangpokpi PG Singsit, SP Noney Ningshem Vashum along with the leaders of Joint Action Committee of peace and normalcy in Pongringlong village at Tupul Community Hall.

The situation is now under control, and it is learnt that a high level meeting with the chief minister and the two parties will hold a joint meeting on Monday.
