Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) caretaker chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung on Saturday officially launched and handed over one basic life support system ambulance each to Ukhrul and Kamjong district hospital for use during COVID-19 pandemic.

The much needed addition of ambulances came as a big relief for the two government hospitals which have been facing acute shortages of life support as they manage the whole affairs with single digit ambulances amid the health crisis. Now, they would operate with two ambulances each with the new additions.

Associate pastor UBC Ukhrul reverend Luther Chamroy blessed the launching event.

The two ambulances were handed over to assistant commissioner to DC Ukhrul Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei and chief medical officer Dr AS Kapangring and SDO Kamjong HL Jain, and DSO of Kamjong Dr Mathotmi to be used during COVID-19 pandemic.

Post the official launching event, UADC CEO Polly Makan handed over a memorandum to DC Ukhrul and DC Kamjong at the caretaker chairman's chamber in Ukhrul.

It stated that ambulances are the property of ADC Ukhrul. Once the Covid pandemic is over, the ambulances shall be duly returned to ADC Ukhrul. These ambulances were purchased from the 15 Finance Commission award for the financial year of 2020-21 under a tied grant, Dr Yaronsho said.

He further said that the additional ambulances will give added advantages in their fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
