State Platform of Disabled People’s Organisations (SPDPO), Manipur on Friday stated that it is shocked by the recent government order issued from department of education(s) which instructed to take 50 per cent school fees and to give 70 per cent monthly salaries for teachers in all private schools amid pandemic.

The government must draw its attention to the fact that during the first wave of COVID-19, no physical classes were conducted after the students were paid admission fees, SPDPO stated in a release signed by its president Md Yunus Khan. For the following academic session, the students were informed to get admitted for the next class, SPDPO stated.

To get proper education, even students from poor families are getting admitted at private schools, it further stated, adding that the state government should reconsider whether the recent order is reasonable amid the pandemic while the daily wages earners are suffering.

However, SPDPO appreciates the decision of the state government that monthly school fees will be exempted from students whose parents have succumbed to COVID-19, it stated.

Various measures are being undertaken by the state government but it has not still discussed the clause (e) section 2 of Disaster Management Act, 2005,  SPDPO further stated, adding though the state faced a second wave of COVID-19, the state government is yet to take necessary steps for persons with disability families.

SPDPO appealed to the state government to reconsider the recent government order as it could add more problems to the people who are suffering from the pandemic.
