RIMS doctors successfully conduct Mucormycosis surgery

The patient is undergoing treatment after COVID-19 infection in RIMS Hospital.

A team of ENT surgeons of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal on Friday successfully conducted a surgery of Mucormycosis to a post-COVID-19 patient.

A release issued by RIMS stated that the team of ENT surgeons consisting of Dr O Priyokumar and Dr N Jiten Singh successfully conducted the surgery of Mucormycosis that involved nose and paranasal part in the post-COVID-19 patient.

The patient is undergoing treatment after COVID-19 infection in RIMS Hospital under the prof Ch Dhanaraj. The Anaesthetist team was led by prof L Pradip and Dr Edori Longjam, it added.

It stated that during the surgery, Murcormycosis was found in the right sinus, ethmoid sinus, middle and inferior turbinates, posterior part of the nasal septum. Sphenoid sinus was found to be oedematous but clear of gross disease.

The lamina papyracea (thin wall separating orbit and nasal cavity) and floor of the brain was found to be intact. All parts involved by the Mucormycosis were cleared of the disease. Patient is stable after the surgery, it added.
