Amid the pandemic impact on the state's economy, the Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has urged the people in the state to work harder to increase agricultural produce in the efforts toward making the state self reliant. Taking serious note of the farmers' plight, the MSF said it will look into the price hike of essential items required for farming and agricultural activities.
The MSF also appealed to the state government to make sure that fertilisers and other essential items such as Urea, Diammonium Phosphate, Muriate of Potash, Single Super Phosphate, Triple Super Phosphate etc. required in agricultural activities are readily available at affordable price for the poor farmers in the state.
Unlike the past, the state has to rely on agricultural products from other states at present since the farmers in the state are also affected by the pandemic. However, rice imported from other states is not easily available and as such people still face problems, it added.
MSF on April 26 had raised the same matter in a memorandum submitted to the chief minister of the state and the minister of CAFPD as well. In the memorandum, MSF drew attention of the minister and the chief minister to take necessary steps to make sure that essential items required in agriculture are readily available at cheaper rates, it added.
