Truckload of timber seized in Churachandpur

A truck bearing registration number MN01-7218 along with the driver and helper were handed over to the divisional forest officer of Tuibong for further necessary action.

A team of Churachandpur Police seized a truck loaded with timber on Saturday at Munlai village in Churanchandpur.

Following a tip off from a reliable source about illegal transportation of timber in Henglep sub-division, a team of Churachandpur police led by SDPO of Thanlon and OC of Henglep carried out surprise checking on Saturday and seized a truck loaded with timber.

The truck bearing registration number MN01-7218 along with the driver and helper were handed over to the divisional forest officer of Tuibong for further necessary action.

A source from the Forest department added that the truckload timber was caught around 6:30 am Saturday by OC of Henglep at Munlai village and later handed over to the range officer of Henglep.

The truck with four logs of timber (ucham) has a volume of 7.66 cubic meters, the DFO said, adding that a Preliminary Offence Report (POR) has been prepared.

The arrested driver of the truck, Thanglenmang Singsit, 27, son of Sehlun Singsit of Leijangphai village, Thanlon sub-division, Pherzawl district was released on bail after his statement was taken.
