‘Provide monthly pensions to elderly, widows’

A total of 420 persons, including both elderly persons and widows were given monthly pensions on 10th of every month, said MPCC member Deben to the media in a video clip.

Co-opted member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Deben Achoibam on Friday urged the state government to provide financial aid to the elderly persons and widows as monthly pensions.

A total of 420 persons, including both elderly persons and widows were given monthly pensions on 10th of every month, said Deben to the media in a video clip. He was speaking on the sidelines of a distribution of monthly pensions to the elderly persons and widows of Lamlai assembly constituency on Friday.

Deben said the monetary assistance as monthly pension is being distributed from his own expenses in memory of his late mother, Achoibam ongbi Ibemhal Devi. For the last three years and 11 months, he has been distributing monetary aid as a monthly pension with an amount of Rs 400 and Rs 200 to each widows and elderly persons respectively of the assembly constituency, he said.

The programme was conducted by strictly following the guidelines of the pandemic.

He further said that about 75 per cent of the total population of Lamlai assembly constituency is illiterate, and urged the state government to provide monetary aid as a monthly pension for elderly persons and widows.
