MHRC directs Kakching DC to ensure distribution of rice under NFSA, PMGKAY rules

The Commission issued the directive, following a complaint lodged by one E Rajib Singh and others in connection with the alleged irregularities in rice distribution under PMGKAY in view of COVID 19 pandemic.

Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on Thursday directed the deputy commissioner, Kakching to ensure that the distribution of rice to the public in Kakching district is carried out as per the requirement of National Food Security Act (NFSA) and PMGKAY, and to submit a compliance report within two weeks.

The Commission issued the directive, following a complaint lodged by one E Rajib Singh and others in connection with the alleged irregularities in rice distribution under PMGKAY in view of COVID 19 pandemic.

Stating that the NFSA beneficiaries should be given five kilograms of rice each under PMGKAY scheme for the period of May and June, 2021, the complaint written to MHRC alleged that the fair price shop owner distributed only three kilograms of rice to each beneficiary.

Regarding the matter, a complaint was written to the owner of the fair price shop to distribute the rice as per the requirement of PMGKAY, but the owner allegedly refused to listen to their requests and asked them to take their complaints to higher authorities, it added.

MHRC also directed the commissioner, CAP and PD and deputy commissioner Kakching to submit their respective report regarding the complaint before the commission within two weeks and fixed June 16 for the next hearing of the case.
