Random COVID-19 testing conducted in Ukhrul, five new cases detected

Of the total 124 persons tested, five fresh positive cases were detected from Viewland in Ukhrul town which had the highest number of positive cases.

For the first time in Ukhrul district, a random COVID-19 testing was carried out in Ukhrul town under the supervision of district surveillance officer Ukhrul Dr Juliana Thotreichon on Tuesday. A total of 124 persons were randomly picked and screened, of which five persons were found to be positive.

Of the total 124 persons tested, five fresh positive cases were detected from Viewland in Ukhrul town which had the highest number of positive cases.

“The random testing drive in Ukhrul town was a success,” stated DSO Ukhrul in a statement, adding that healthcare workers tested the staff and security of Punjab National Bank (PNB) and UCO bank situated at Viewland bazar, in addition to customers coming from different places to these two leading banks. All of those tested were Covid negative, DSO Ukhrul added.

The tests for sales persons of all pharmacies situated at Viewland and Wino bazar catering services with high number of customers on a daily basis were also done, including daily wage earners and random passersby, and all of them tested negative, he mentioned.

One person from a popular fish shop and pan shop owner in Viewland Ukhrul tested positive.

Meanwhile, the DSO Ukhrul appreciated the contributions made by Ukhrul police, Tangkhul Co-ordination Forum on COVID-19 volunteers (TCFC), Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL)  as the district continue to combat the menace of dreaded Covid infections.

A total of 19 Covid positive patients have been discharged while the total cumulative positive cases stands at 391, of which 227 are males while 164 are females, according to district surveillance officer, Ukhrul.  

Meanwhile, in view of the impending threats of the COVID-19 pandemic in the area and to prevent spread, district magistrate Ukhrul sealed, barred entry and exit of population from four containment areas on Tuesday and directed to initiate active surveillance of the Covid cases with immediate effect.

Residences of Sarina Vashum, wife of Dearson Vashum at Leiyatang Hungpung; Joyrimoon Clara, daughter of Peter at Dungrei Hungpung; Rinchaiphi KSV, son of Luingam KSV at Khapaitang Lower Hungphung and Valleyrose wife of Aimson at Leiyatang Hungpung were declared as containment zones.
