The Khwai Nungseng Sintha Lup (KNSL) has appealed to the authority concerned to appoint priests and priestesses at sacred places of Mt Koubru.

The initiative taken by various CVOs, state leaders and different sections of the society to protect the sacred site of Mt Koubru after it was destroyed by some miscreants on April 15 is highly appreciated, KNSL stated in a release.

KNSL will be taking full responsibility to prevent such eventuality in future by staying on night halt at the said sites to maintain strict vigilance. However, the association also wants some steps from the government to preserve and protect the pilgrimage place of Meitei, it added.

It further stated that the state government should appoint priests and priestesses to conduct religious activities in the sacred place, renovate the demolished place at the earliest, deploy forest guard in the reserve forest area of the place, and form a reserve forest task force and joint forest management.

Urging the people of the state to extend their support to fulfil the demand, it stated that the government should also take initiative to protect and preserve other historic places of Manipur.

KNSL appreciated the people of the state who came forward to help the organisation while performing its duties in protection and preservation of the Mt Koubru sacred places, the release said.
