Manipur on Saturday recorded 1007 new COVID-19 positive cases, the highest single day spike in the state so far, pushing the statewide tally to 48,850, while 15 more succumbed to the disease. The statewide death toll rose 776 while 40044 people have recovered from the illness. With it, the total number of active cases in the state stood at 8,030, as per the latest update by the state health department.
The new positive cases included one personnel of the Central Armed Police Force.
Of the new cases among the general population, 358 and 237 are from Imphal West and Imphal East respectively. The two districts have been continuously reporting the highest number of daily spikes among all districts in the state.
Thoubal district reported 98 new COVID-19 positive cases while Bishnupur and Kakching reported 63 new cases each. At least six are from tengnoupal and four from Jiribam.
Among the hll districts, Churachandpur continued to report the highest number of daily spike with 91 new cases, followed by Tamenglong with 34, Pherzawl 12, Kamjong 10, Senapati eight, Chandel four, Kangpokpi and Noney three each, according to a release from the Common COVID-19 Control Room.
Imphal West district reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. Five more deaths are from Imphal East, one from Bishnupur, two from Thoubal and one from Ukhrul districts, according to the release.
As many as 564 more people recovered from the illness. The recovery rate fell to 81.97 per cent on Saturday from 82.51 per cent on Friday,
Meanwhle, the total number of people vaccinated in the state reached 3,75,518, the release said, adding that a total of 1,355 D type oxygen cylinders and 651 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state.
