Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) Convenor M Tombi on Monday urged the people of respective assembly constituencies to keep a mark on those MLAs who give priorities on getting ministerial berths instead of focusing on the pandemic.
Speaking in a press conference held at its head office located at Babupara, Imphal, he said that the MDA condemns the political parties who are concerned on getting political gains while asserting that those parties should immediately do away with the political war.
He said the MDA has been supporting on various issues of the state. Different sections including farmers and others are facing drastic issues due to the arrival of the pandemic in the state. Instead of considering the burning issues, some political parties are fighting to get political benefits.
The people of respective assembly constituencies should keep a mark on those MLAs and chose them as their representatives in the coming general assembly election, he said.
The government has shut down Khwairamband market since the implementation of lockdown in the state, he said. The women vendors of Khwairamband market have been suffering a lot as an impact of the lockdown. The government needs to arrange alternative measures by allowing them to sell their items at the small markets located at various places of Imphal city area, he asserted.
Co-convenor of MDA, K Khogendra said that the ‘All Political Parties’ have conducted and resolved to send a memorandum to the central government, opposing the delimitation process to be conducted based on the 2001 census.
Though the resolution to send a memorandum was taken at the meeting of ‘All Political Parties’, none came to give their signature for the memorandum as some of the political parties are focusing to get political gains out of their vested interest, he alleged. Though MDA is a part of ‘All Political Parties’, it has already sent a separate memorandum regarding the delimitation process, he added.
“Politics must be sacrificed for the welfare of the people. If any politician fails to sacrifice their personal interest for the welfare of the people, then it is better to resign from politics permanently,” he added.
