Most of the people in the state are not aware of the hike in fuel prices as seven districts in the state are under extended curfew since May 8 in view of the critical COVID-19 situation. However, essential services including oil pumps, were allowed to open during the restriction.

Meanwhile, the current price of subsidised 14.2 kg LPG is fixed at Rs 732.

According to official data, fuel price in Imphal is taken from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited that may vary within the city and at outlets of other companies. The current fuel price in Imphal included all state and central taxes.

BS-VI fuel is available for sale in Imphal since April 1, 2020 and sales of BS-IV fuel have ended. The major difference between the existing BS-VI and BS-IV is the presence of sulphur in the fuel. While the content of sulphur in BS-IV fuel is 50 parts per million (ppm), the BS-VI fuel only has 10 ppm sulphur content. Lesser the sulphur content, cleaner fuel quality as it reduces the emission of harmful pollutants like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. BS-VI fuel would cut down PM emissions in half, it added.
