Manipur logs 538 new COVID-19 positive cases, 17 deaths

Manipur's COVID-19 caseload on Monday surged to 44,627 as 538 new COVID-19 positive cases were recorded in the state in a span of 24 hours, while the death toll climbed to 705 with 17 more fatalities during the same period, the state health department said. 

Imphal East and Imphal West reported seven COVID-19 fatalities each, while Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal reported one death each, it added.  

The new positive cases included 530 from the general population and eight personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Among the new COVID-19 positive cases from the general population Imphal West and Imphal East continued to report the highest number of daily cases at 202 and 164 respectively. Thirty-eight new cases were reported from Ukhrul, 34 from Churachandpur, 21 from Bishnupur, 18 from Thoubal, 12 from Kakching, eight from Senapati, seven each from Jiribam and Kangpokpi, five each from Chandel and Tengnoupal, four each from Tamenglong and Noney, and one from Kamjong, the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it stated.

The cumulative number of recovered cases in the state reached 37,478, including 611 new recoveries. The state's recovery rate is 83.98 per cent, while the number of COVID-19 cases stands at 6,444, the release added.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,323 D type oxygen cylinders and 495 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state in the past 24 hours. District hospitals and government institutions have 186 D, 61 B type filled cylinders.

 As per the latest update, the total number of people who have been inoculated reached 3,45,618.
