Manipur to set up Covid testing facility at Mao Gate, oxygen plant at Senapati

TK Woodland tourist resort in Ukhrul will be converted into a Covid Isolation Hospital to accommodate more serious patients from both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

In the effort to control the surging COVID-19 cases in the state, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday announced that a Covid testing facility will be set up at Mao gate, exclusively for drivers entering Manipur through Mao.

The chief minister also said the government will set up an oxygen plant at Senapati and three more ambulances will be provided for the district. It was also decided that the number of ICU beds will now be increased to 10 and four more ventilators will be provided to the district.

During his visit, Biren handed over a BLS ambulance and 10 oxygen concentrators to the district.

The chief minister also visited Ukhrul district to review the COVID-19 situation in the district.

In a review meeting held at the Ukhrul Mini Secretariat to monitor the overall management of the second wave of the pandemic in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, the chief minister said that the TK Woodland tourist resort in Ukhrul will be converted into a Covid Isolation Hospital to accommodate more serious patients from both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

The Covid Isolation Hospital will be with equipped with 75 beds and 10 ventilators and become functional by May 29, CM Biren said in a tweet.

"To be able to accommodate more serious patients from both Ukhrul and Kamjong district, the TK Woodland tourist resort in Ukhrul will now be converted into a Covid Isolation Hospital equipped with 75 beds and 10 ventilators. This facility will be ready by 29th May," CM Biren tweeted.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister visited the Ukhrul District Covid Care Centre to monitor the arrangements made for the patients.

Biren also interacted with the doctors and healthcare staff and assured that the government will take utmost care for the frontline warriors.

After his visit to Ukhrul district, the chief minister headed to Senapati district to monitor the entire management of COVID-19 pandemic in the district.

The review meeting, held in the presence of ministers, MLAs, DC, SP, CMO and CSOs discussed various measures to curb the number of COVID-19 cases in the district.

In another review meeting held at Tamenglong district to monitor the covid control efforts taken up by the district administration, various matters, including setting up of a PSA oxygen plant capable of producing 200 cylinders per day and delivery of three new ambulances for the district. 

CM Biren also handed over another 10 oxygen concentrators for Tamenglong district during his visit to the district on Monday. 

The review meeting was held in the presence of Forest Minister Awangbou Newmai, deputy commissioner Armstrong Pame, SP, CMO and representative of CSOs in Tamenglong district.
