CPI (M) condoles death of veteran leader Thoudam Komol

Thoudam Komol died of COVID-19 related health complications on Tuesday.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Manipur expressed its heartfelt grief on the demise of veteran communist and peasant’s leader of Manipur, Thoudam Komol, who expired due to COVID-19 related health complications on Tuesday.

A release by secretary of CPI (M) Manipur State Committee Kshetrimayum Santa stated that comrade Thoudam Komol was secretariat member of CPI (M) Manipur State Committee, secretary of Manipur Loumee Marup (affiliated to AIKS) and All India Kisan Council during the 1990s and 2000s.  He passed away on 18 May 2021, at the age of 78 due to Covid-19 related complications.

It further stated that Thoudam Komol joined the communist party in 1966 as a youth leader of his Khundrakpam village. During his 55 years in the party, he dedicated himself for the cause of the peasants, downtrodden masses and rural Manipur. His political and social works endeared him to the masses. After serving a long stint as a government teacher, he contested the general elections for Manipur Legislative Assembly from Khundrakpam assembly constituency in 1995 and 2002 as a CPI (M) candidate.

“The CPI (M) Manipur and peasants movement have suffered a huge loss on the demise of comrade Thoudam Komol. The Manipur State Secretariat of CPI (M) pays its respectful homage, dips its Red Flag in memory of the departed leader and conveys heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members,” the release stated.
