Contact Childline to assist children affected by COVID-19 pandemic

District Child Protection Unit (DCPU)-Bishnupur to provide aid to children orphaned due to COVID-19 or left without care.

In case of any child who has been orphaned due to COVID-19 or left in a situation without anyone to take care of them due to both parents being affected by the disease, deputy commissioner of Bishnupur Krishna Kumar on Saturday urged the general public to contact Childline on the toll free number-1098.

The people can also inform DCPU or Child Welfare Committee (CWC)-Bishnupur district in regard to children in such precarious situations, stated a notice from DC Krishna Kumar who is also the chairman of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU)-Bishnupur. The notice was issued by keeping in view of the critical situation arising from the surge in COVID -19 cases.

It further stated that the children in distress will be provided immediate shelter and rehabilitation under the provisions of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) under the permissible guidelines of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

The Child Care Institutions for such children as mentioned in a letter issued by director (Social Welfare) on May 10, are Glory Children Home run by New Life Foundation at Moirang Thamnapokpi for boys with contact details: 9862948678 and 8802002748; and Nura Poireikon, Universal Development and Caring Society (UDCS), Bishnupur Ward No-IV for girls with contact details: 8730037794 and 8837073926, it added.
